Vitamin D is an important nutraceutical for your diet. The article below notes more evidence that this vitamin may reduce heart disease and diabetes risk.

More Time In Sun For Elderly Could Reduce Cardiac Risk

Spending more time in the sun could translate to a lower risk of heart disease and diabetes in older people.

Researchers at the University of Warwick say that is because sunlight stimulates vitamin D in the skin and older people are more likely to have low vitamin D levels.

They note vitamin D deficiency can lead to a condition known as metabolic syndrome, which heightens the risk of developing heart disease and diabetes.

More than 32-hundred people age 50 to 70 from Beijing and Shanghai, China, were recruited for this study.

The researchers found 94-percent of the study participants had a vitamin D deficiency, with about 42-percent of those people also having metabolic syndrome.

Lead researcher Dr. Oscar Franco says the study results are consistent with findings in U.S. and British populations.

He suggests vitamin D deficiency could become a global health problem.
